Congratulations to all our patients that have been having treatment in the last few weeks in the build up to the London Marathon. From Sports Massage, Podiatry, pedicures, reflexology, nutrition and Osteopathy. Here at Bodyworks were were able to provide the people of Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards cross and the surrounding areas of South Bucks with the most optimal care that is required to be fully/or fighting fit for the great challenges that marathon training and running the marathon can throw up.
There were a few last minute sessions to loosen up tight spots and Kinesio Tape vulnerable areas to great effect.
Now this week, it's all about post event aftercare, with gentle stretching massaging, ultrasound, kinesio-taping, Osteopathic adjustments and foot care. If your going to put the body through it- you must get the proper support and care throughout, otherwise the chances of developing problems and damaging joints and tendons are high.

Semi Permanent Makeup (micro-pigmentation)
Semi Permanent makeup or micro pigmentation is a
delicate, controlled method of applying subtle micro insertions of pigment in
to the skin. The technique is similar to standard tattooing; however natural tones of pigment are used instead of
inks and penetrated 1mm deep into the dermal layer. All pigment colours are
hypoallergenic, pharmaceutical grade and have non toxic properties. A single
use safety cartridge is used and safely disposed of after each procedure. The idea is to form a gentle shadow of colour, achieving a
natural effect for each individual; this will gradually fade over 2-5 years, following the advised aftercare.
A procedure consists of
an initial consultation, an application focus visit and a follow up visit in
4-6 weeks to define the colour and design. During your consultation you’ll be
asked to complete a medical questionnaire, and two patch tests will be done to
check for any allergic reaction to the topical skin anaesthetic and
pigment. We’ll then choose a customized
blend of colour, to suit your skin tone and decide on the perfect shape and
definition. To optimise desired results, we can also incorporate balancing
asymmetrical aspects of the face and/or correct uneven features. Topical skin anaesthetics are used during
treatments to minimise discomfort.
Permanent make up is
an art and for the best results should be applied in two treatment sessions,
4-6 weeks apart. Future follow up treatments are always half of the original
course price.
The final result is
a natural enhancement of facial features: - Brightening of the eyes by lengthening the look of lashes and enhancing
eye contour and shape.
- Balancing and framing the face, by thickening, shaping, or even
redefining brows.
- Enriching the natural colour and shape of your lips to achieve a
more youthful appearance
Why Semi Permanent Make-up?- Smudge free – Hassle free –time saving
- No maintenance
- Water proof
- Partner proof
- Natural
· Customised – Long lasting make up that may change
your life forever!
Who is it for? Anyone who wants to increase their confidence in
their appearance and prefers looking their best 24/ 7.
Discounts
for 2 or more treatments and referrals of new clients.
Derma Roller SR /Collagen Induction TherapyThe benefits: effective in rejuvenating, repairing the skin and stimulating
production of collagen and elastin, using the body’s natural healing ability. This
treatment diminishes wrinkles, depressed acne or surgical scars, minimises
pores, pigmentation, sun damaged skin, and it’s also effective for cellulite,
stretch marks and receding and thinning
hair.
A consultation will be done before your first treatment, you’ll
be asked to complete a medical questionnaire.
The treatments: a topical skin anaesthetic will be applied first to minimise any discomfort.
After 20 minutes a barrel like roller comprising of tiny micro needles
is rolled carefully across the skin, creating miniscule pin pricks, this
encourages the skin to regenerate itself and promote collagen production.
Before and after rolling, appropriate vitamin serums are applied, these
penetrate deep into the dermal layer giving greater benefits of nourishing and
plumping the skin, than just being applied to the skins epidermal layer.
After treatment, you will have a
pink sunburn appearance which will last a couple of
hours, at the most to the next morning. Should
the skin be still a little pink, the next morning 100% pure mineral makeup can
be applied to camouflage.
Courses of 3 – 5 treatments are recommended, 4-6
weeks apart, this allows the skin time to regenerate and achieve good results.

Kinesio Taping helps John Bishop complete sports relief Triathlon
Most people have seen the news this week following the great feat that John Bishop completed in the aid of the charity Sports Relief.
I was following his twitter progress and regular updates on talk sport, and was surprised of his chirpy upbeat manner considering the task he was undertaking. That said he is a scouser!
I was not surprised that he was having to gain assistance to aid his muscle damage and performance with the use of Kinesio Taping. It has radical effects in aiding tight, weak, fatigued and poor functioning muscles and joints, and is now used at elite level nd will be seen at the olympics this year.
Click the link below for more information on the amazing feat that John completed for Sports Relief.

I'm sure my patients see the resemblance to the tape that I use in my treatments, although pink seems to be a favourite equally with men and women!

There are many people who suffer from Frozen Shoulders who are misdiagnosed, improperly treated or not provided with all the treatment options. Contrary to popular belief an Acute Frozen shoulder in phase I and the start of phase II should not be mobilised and stretched as the short term gains do hold. This is due to the impaired sensory map of the shoulder on the homunculus in the cerebral cortex. Therefore motor output to the shoulder will also be impaired and the complex co-ordination of the shoulder muscles will be dysfunctional and the shoulder will lock down to prevent further unusual motor stress.
The Shoulder and the Brain eventually work things out over a period of time and that is why Frozen Shoulders will go on their own after 3 years. But the excruciating pain and sleepless nights and immobility can be intolerable.
The treatment that we conduct at Bodyworks in Chalfont St Peter, Gerrards Cross. Has been tuned by Peter Clark at the London Frozen Shoulder Clinic. This involves a complex series of pressure into the upper arm and shoulder depending on phase and presentation to reset sensory feedback to the homunculus and therefore effect motor output.
Read Gill Broadbent's journey through her experiences with her Frozen Shoulder and Treatment at Bodyworks.
I got in touch with Peter when I realised that my shoulder was immobilised and painful after 2 months in a sling following a broken elbow. Whilst my hand, wrist and elbow seemed to be responding to physio, it was obvious to me that the muscles in my shoulder were not working together properly, and that movement only made it more painful, and I felt, risked it more damage.
Before this, I’d never heard of a frozen shoulder, but after research on-line I was pretty convinced that this was what I had, and I was very worried about what lay in store for me in terms of pain and the length of time I would be disabled. It was a depressing time, given that I had been looking forward to a return to normality after the broken arm. I found Peter’s details during my on-line research and I received treatment from him over 3- 4 months, initially every week, then every couple of weeks as my pain decreased and my mobility increased.
Compared with the horror stories I’ve read about, my frozen shoulder has recovered quickly, and whilst I will never know what the pattern would have been for me without Peter’s treatment, I can certainly say that I found him: very knowledgeable, very very professional, extremely expert in physiology and massage and the most supportive health professional I had any dealings with during the time.
With a frozen shoulder you get conflicting advice from every quarter, with doctors and physios all recommending mobilising the shoulder, contrary to my strong instinct that it would just increase the damage. Peter’s approach differed from them completely, but it was practical and made sense to me, and gave me some relief from the pain and loss of mobility throughout. I was very impressed with the way that Peter undertook his treatment professionally without feeling any need to criticise these other attitudes. Once the shoulder did start to improve, Peter gently introduced exercises to get me moving anyway, but not before time.
I would definitely return to Peter for any shoulder problem, or indeed osteopathy treatment, as I completely trust him, and I would strongly recommend him to any one looking for the same.
Best regards,
Gill Broadbent

Was your summer
blighted by hay fever?
Homeopathic
treatment during the winter months may be the answer!
As we batten down the hatches and get out the winter woolies think back to the summer months. Sadly for an increasing number of people the enjoyment of the warmer weather was blighted by the misery of hay fever. Hay fever, or allergic rhinitis, is the most common allergy in the UK, with one in five people suffering symptoms at some point in their lives. The hay fever season can vary for individuals; depending on which substance they are allergic to. Tree pollens, such as birch, arrive first in the spring, followed by grass pollens in the summer and ending with fungal spores in the autumn. However, increased traffic congestion is adding to the problem, with ‘urban hay fever’ now affecting up to 60%of city residents.

I Completed an advanced Kinesio Taping course today, as seen on the likes of David Beckham and Ian Thorpe and elite athletes all around the world. It is fantastic for lymphatic drainage, haematoma (bruising), acute trauma, tendonitis, bursitis, supporting muscles and improving flexibility, re-educating the muscles, joints and fascia and is great at enhancing performance. The Tape can be left on for 4-5 days and unlike traditional tape there is minimal discomfort upon removal. For people with acute sprains and muscle strains it can dramatically reduce swelling and accelerate tissue healing within hours. You can achieve the same response with 5 minutes of tape application that you can with 30 minutes of soft tissue massage and lymphatic drainage.
Kinesio/K tape is re-writing the rules of rehabilitation and performance enhancing, and it is available in Chalfont St Peter and Gerrards Cross at Bodyworks Clinic.
To see an example of the rapid response of reduction in swelling and bruising in a thigh haematoma click the link below.

Great responses today with treatment. Especially pleased for a lovely lady who has had to unfortunately resign from her job because of the pain and discomfort of her frozen shoulder, but showing great range of motion improvements that last after each session, and she has started a new company that is in line with where she wants to be and allows her to avoid the normal daily work stress associated with frozen shoulder like driving and computer work.
The treatment at the Bucks frozen shoulder clinic at bodyworks in Chalfont St Peter, utilises the Niel-Asher Technique which was advanced at The London Frozen Clinic by Peter Clark, where he is the Senior Associate Osteopath.
Frozen Shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is such a chronic debilitating condition, but it will get better regardless of any intervention (it may take 3 years without treatment, but it will get better). That is the light at the end of the tunnel, therefore we advise not to opt for surgical intervention and adopt a more conservative treatment to accelerate the condition to conclusion. Even having an initial consultation and treatment has profound mental and physical effects due to the sheer experience of the Principal Peter Clark who has treated over 1000 frozen shoulder patients.
More information will be appearing on the bodyworks website in the near future regarding exercises/ resources for patients who are seeking further help. Regardless of what people decide to do, we want to provide advice and assistance in helping people deal with such a sleep depriving and painful debilitative condition.

This week I was filled in with developments in the latest James Bond film, by a producer during a treatment. They are very busy at the moment, and apparently doing boring things currently like filming helicopters and Aston martins rushing around..... hmmm, doesn't sound boring to me! Well at least the Bodyworks team have been able to service the crew when required.
